In 2011, we hired API-CINE to professionally film a movie production version of The Nutcracker! The entire hour and forty minute-long ballet was filmed in ONE DAY at our studio warehouse in Collierville, TN. With a cast of over 70 people, we had a challenging day of filming since we shot the entire ballet BACKWARDS! We started with the second Act and worked our way to the beginning Party Scene in Act One at the very end of the day.
To help supplement our cast of 70+ students and friends who performed in the ballet, we also contracted with two amazing professional dancers from Boulder Ballet - Matthew Helms and Melissa Heslep - to dance the incredibly difficult roles of Snow King and Queen and also Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier. Their jaw-dropping performances are inspiring and energizing to watch!
All in all, as challenging as it was to put all of it together, we are very proud of the final result - excerpts from a very professional movie version of the traditional classic, The Nutcracker!
